On the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia we find the town Robina. Robina is noted as being one of the very first planned residential communities in Australia. In 2011 it had a population of more than 20,500 inhabitants. Notable buildings located in Robina are Bond University, Cbus Super Stadium, the Robina Branch Library and the Robina Town Shopping Centre.
In 1980, 20 square kilometers (approx. 7.7 square miles) of land in the southern part of the Gold Coast, west of Broadbeach was sold to Dr. Robin Loh. A famous Singaporean real estate developer. Previously used for grazing, this land became the town of Robina. Engaging internationally renowned urban designer Moshe Safdie, Dr. Loh established the Robina Land Corporation that lead to the development of this residential and commercial hub Robina. Today it is home to more than 30,000 inhabitants and a workforce of more than 20,000. Robina is one of the Gold Coast’s fastest growing towns and is considered one of Australia’s most successful, planned communities. In the 10 years from 2001 to 2011 population grew annually at a rate of 4.8% in this town.
Prior to the construction of Robina Railway Station and the Robina Town Centre shopping complex, the suburb of Robina Town Centre (secondary suburb of Robina) was known as Kerrydale. In this town it’s possible to celebrate New Year’s Eve twice in an hour. By crossing to the other side of the road because of its proximity to the border of Queensland. Since New South Wales observes daylight saving and Queensland doesn’t.
